MEET LEOMILE FROM LESOTHO

Leomile is a singer, songwriter & composer from Maseru, Lesotho. Her name means“Onewho brings restoration” and is often given to rainmakers in her Basotho culture. True to its meaning, her music is an invocation for the healing of African people on the continent and across the Diaspora. Drawing much of her inspiration from folklore she blends her native language of Sesotho with modern instrumentation and genres to tell compelling stories and reinvent African soul music.

Her influences are vast, spanning artists such as Miriam Makeba, the globally renowned Lesotho band; Sankomota, Nina Simone, Janelle Monae to name a few. This eclectic taste is reflected in her own musical approach whose soundscape borrows from Jazz, Folk, Famo (Basotho accordion music) and spoken word all tied together by her bellowing and undeniable voice.
